Fire destroys 16 houses
AALO, Jan 17: Seven dwelling houses, six semi RCC and three OBT barracks were devastated in two separate fire incidents at Ngomdir village and Gour Hill on Tuesday.
Six units of semi RCC and three units of OBT barracks that belonged to Department of Hydro Power were reduced to ashes at Gour Hill at 2.30 am.
In another fire incident that broke out at Ngomdir village at around 10 am, seven dwelling houses were completely gutted.
Properties worth lakhs of rupees, including Power Tiller, Rice Mills, Motorcycles, and Gun etc were either lost or damaged in the fire.
The district administration represented by EAC Liyi Bagra, West Siang DSP and DDMO rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. The fire victims of both Gour Hill and Ngomdir village were provided immediate support in form of cash payments. DIPRO
ITWs disappointed with government apathy

ITANAGAR, Jan 17: As the continuing deadlock between the authorities and agitating Itanagar Traffic Wardens (ITW) entered its ninth day with authorities not being able to make any headway, the ITWs have questioned the state government's silence over the issue.
Addressing media persons at the Press Club here this afternoon, Taniang Yao, a second batch Traffic Warden said that ITWs have also approached the Chief Minister regarding the matter but there has been no response from his side till date.
While reiterating their demands which include; job regularization, enhancement of payment, end to payment deduction besides, 15 day casual leave annually and abolition of muster roll, Yao said that the government could at least absorb the 200 ITWs in the department on casual basis if not on permanent basis.

'Seeking regularization of jobs after serving the state government for 6 long years, is a legitimate right of the ITWs. If the government had regularized the jobs of hundreds of SSA teachers then why cannot it regularize the ITWs', he further questioned.
The ITWs have maintained that back in 2011, when the recruitment of ITWs began the then DIGP (Traffic), Robin Hibu assured them that about 30 of them will later be absorbed in the fire brigade or the Home department based on their performance and seniority.
Tabang Yati, a first batch ITW said that the authorities have utterly failed to fulfill its assurance. 'We have submitted a total of 11 memorandums since 2013 to the authorities but there has been no positive response from their end. Moreover, the Home department has also declared that recruitment of ITWs does not come under its purview. The authority to recruit the ITWs rests with the Chief Estate Officer (CEO) only', he claimed.
The ITWs have further vowed to continue with its 'whistle down strike' until all its demands are met with.

ITANAGAR, Jan 17: A medical relief and rescue camps were organized in the remote Vijoynagar circle in Changlang district by a local NGO Life Care Foundation from 24th December to 7th January. More than 3000 people in the valley were benefited. Four serious patients brought in stretcher were treated while one serious patient was evacuated to city hospital. Medical Camps were conducted in five different places.

Bogibeel bridge likely to complete by December

APCC refutes Pema's allegation of dictatorship
ITANAGAR, Jan 17: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Tuesday refuted the allegation of Chief Minister Pema Khandu that he was not allowed to function independently as chief minister that compelled him to quit the party.
Pema reportedly leveled this allegation against Indian National Congress during a programme at Borum which was also attended by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Reacting sharply to the allegation, APCC Spokesperson Hina Camder Tok in a counter press statement said that former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki had voluntarily made way for Pema to become Chief Minister after the historic Supreme Court verdict that had reinstalled the Congress Government in the state.
"Tuki invited Pema to become leader of the Congress Legislature Party without dictation from the party high command. He made this sacrifice for the betterment of people of the state. Hence, the question of Congress dictatorship as alleged by Pema does not arise," the APCC Spokesperson said.
He also said that the merger of Pema led Govt. from INC to PPA is illegal since the matter is still subjudice at High Court.
The APCC Spokesperson cautioned the BJP leadership in the state that they should not have much confidence upon the legislators, who have recently joined their party because they have already championed the habit of changing their colours in any point of time.

PASIGHAT, Jan. 17: The Department of Tax & Excise, Pasighat on Monday launched the "GST Registration Week" for migration of existing VAT dealers of Pasighat to the GST common Portal. This migration will facilitate smooth transition of the dealers to GST as and when GST is introduced.
Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak, who formally launched the registration week, gave emphasis on full migration of the existing VAT dealers to GST Common Portal.

ITANAGAR, Jan 17: The department of Tax, Excise and Narcotics has sought the opium affected districts to submit the detail data such as total forest covered area, agriculture and horticulture cultivated area, total numbers of drug addict, synthetic and opium and area under opium and cannabis cultivation.
In a press release, the department said that detailed information will be incorporated in the state level meeting of core committee and deliberation committee to be held on 19 January 2017.

TEZU, Jan 17: Curtains came down on annual Parashuram Kund Mela at Wakro in Lohit district on Monday.
Braving shivering cold, thousands took holy dip at Parshuram Kund on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
Around 50,000 pilgrims and tourists visited the famous holy site during the four days mela. As per official record, over 2500 vehicles were registered for entry during the mela period.
The district administration under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Danish Ashraf, SDO (S) G Hazarika and EAC Wakro cum Mela officer Dakto Riba left no stone unturned to ensure that the Mela was conducted peacefully.

ITANAGAR, Jan 17: A District Consultative Committee (DCC) meeting was convened by Lead Bank at Changlang on Tuesday. It was attended by officials from RBI, NABARD and other banks along with line department & NERCORMP.
Chief Manager Lead Bank, Subhash Dhar shared the status of CD ratio, KCC loan, digitalization, Digi Dhan Vyapar Yojana and Lucky Grahak Yojana and opening of SHG account in the district informing that performance is not satisfactory and that the recovery position of the district was also not up to the mark.
He requested the bank branches to seek help of Govt. functionaries in this regard and maintain close liaison with the Govt. authorities for recovery of bank's dues. He asked for preparing Department wise defaulters list and separate list for Bakijai cases.
District Development Manager, NABARD, Kamal Roy advised all the bank branches to adopt atleast one village in their operation area to ensure 100 percent coverage in financial inclusion, issue of rupay cards, cashless transactions and Aadhar. He also informed about different subsidy schemes such as Dairy Enterpreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS), National Livestock Mission (NLM), AGRI Clinics and AGRI Business Centres (ACABC) Scheme, Installation of Solar Photovoltaic Lightine Systems, solar photovoltaic water pumping systems for irrigation purpose etc. He also sought support from bank managers for credit linkage of SHGs, Farmers' Club and JLGs in the district.

Voice of contractual employees
Dear Editor,
I feel the need to raise the voice on behalf of contractual employees of the state, employed at various departments under central sponsored scheme and state government undertakings.
Though the contractual employees work with sincerity and dedication even in far away districts, their grievances are always unheard and many a times, there are allegations of irregularities.
The fact is that government institution located at every interior area of the state are under the control and administration of these contractual employees. Despite less salary, these employees have taken on the burden of serving in interior places.
The duties performed by the contractual employees always go unrecognized and unrewarded. If contractual employees seek recognition and regularization of service, the government cites financial crises.

Stop treating women as a weaker gender
Dear Editor,
It is true that I often get confused as I try to understand the meaning of morality in its practical context. Recently, while watching a TV debate which was about freedom of women as a social being pushed me back to a mental void as everything seemed to be whirling around and I, a stupid viewer unable to make out the arguments made by a religious leader who made it clear that women are not to work at night and they should not go for wrestling and play tennis and they are someone who were created by the almighty to satisfy the thirst of men. It is immaterial as to what religion did that man belong to, what matters to me the most is, he dares to define morality in public the way he wants and we remain mere spectators. The show went on and countering an argument made by a female member in the show, this religious personality dared to threaten her to be beaten in public if she did not withdraw her statement. The man who advocated morality for women till then, suddenly turned out to be a guy ready to beat a woman in public. I think it is not his religion but his male chauvinistic mind that made him to behave the way he did.
“Stigma thy name is woman” (A.Times: January 10) by Poonam I Kaushish had reminded me of these bigots who assume to be the self styled apostles of morality. Unlike any other European country, we were a nation which had expressed great respect for its women folk since from the vedic period. In our country great teachers, rulers and social reformers were ladies. When men start dictating morality for women, it should be made clear as to what should be the morality designed for men. People often rush into the streets raising slogans and candles in their hands when Nirbhayas repeated.
Shockingly, inhuman acts against women are increasing day by day and I am afraid, if men are going rampantly insensitive as they seem to be looking at women as sacks of pleasure that they can prowl upon anytime anywhere. People look upon a girl with suspicious eyes if she is alone on the road in the evening hours. When boys enjoy the freedom to go around anywhere, why the same is inauspicious for the girls? When hypocrisy running down into any social system in the name of morality, It never serves any good result.
The big question that arises across the spectrum of intelligentsia in this country is should we continue to remain a country deeply chauvinistic and unsafe for our sisters and mothers, a country where anybody anywhere anytime can prowl on a girl even in broad daylight. Especially the cities, when the government wants them to be turned into smart places for everyone to grow and prosper in freedom where multitudes of people from across the globe share their views and work. When the constitution itself propounds equal rights for both men and women in our country, the religious fanatics dictate as to what the girls should wear and where they should go and where they should not. Never anybody tries to elaborate the reason for which our girls are to be persecuted the way they are these days. A country with a 1.3 billion population struggles to keep pace with other countries as poverty, illiteracy and corruption delving into its system and kill all scope for the future prospects.
